Use the PickupPal service to find a ride or passenger to share a trip to the Grey Cup and reduce your carbon footprint.

Ottawa Owners: “We are not absentee landlords.”

I just can’t question the commitment of these four. Not just because they have a business reputation in the city but because their plan shows they understand it will take more than their reputations to secure the long term future of the franchise.

Engineers: North Landsdowne Stands Structurally Sound

Published on October 28, 2008 6:56 PM

While this is good news in terms of cost, it will be interesting to see how these ancient stands can be turned into a stadium that “befits the nation’s capital” with all the modern amenities.

2008 Outstanding Player Nominees Announced

Published on October 28, 2008 6:51 PM

There has been much hype about B.C.’s Cameron Wake being nominated for both Outstanding Player and Outstanding Defensive Player. Now that wake has both nominations, in turns out two other defensive players received the same nominations (Chris Thompson in Hamilton and Doug Brown in Winnipeg) with Brown getting a triple nomination with an Outstanding Canadian nod as well.

’Riders Sell Out Entire Season

Published on October 24, 2008 7:43 PM

Great accomplishment for Saskatchewan and the league. With two franchises 100% sold-out for the entire season, there is more proof the CFL continues its upswing. The league’s goal is to have fans standing outside every stadium saying, “Anyone got a ticket? I need a ticket.”

Argos to Stay Course

This is good news. No team needs to bring in wholesale changes every off-season in an effort to rebuild every year. Develop players and a program and the fans will appreciate the results much more than a one-year team-for-hire.

More on Playoff Saturdays

Published on October 9, 2008 7:09 PM

Since ratings are already up, and good playoff games already draw more than regular season games, I think it will be difficult to attribute any rise in viewership to the move to Saturdays.

Playoffs Move to Saturday

Published on October 7, 2008 9:19 PM

Ian Busby quietly breaks the story (to my knowledge) that the CFL is moving it’s playoff contests excluding the Grey Cup to Saturdays. I check the CFL schedule and sure enough, it is there in black and white. Once again the CFL applies a solution to a regional problem league wide. I think they will find that they will lose a lot more of their core fans who are busy with other activities than they will gain from not going against NFL Sunday.

CFL Announces New Discipline Standards

Published on October 2, 2008 7:13 PM

By announcing these standards unilaterally the CFL shows it is serious about and acting proactively to regain control of its on-field discipline process. Unfortunately, the timing will be questioned, but obviously the unilateral decision shows the CFL has learned a lesson about dealing with a filibustering CFLPA when changes were needed last year to protect players and establish the league’s authority.

Beer Cans Banned in Regina’s East Stands

Published on October 1, 2008 7:04 PM

Jim Hopson, Roughrider CEO:

If you buy less beer, we’re OK with that. With the way things are going with the team in other areas, we’re not too concerned about a loss of beer sales.
Wow. A CFL team not worried about beer sales and every nickel. Times must be good.
