The most telling statement is:
We brought in the head of the NBA team services group to our governors meetings and talked out getting past that compete-on-the-field against each other thing when it comes to business of (sic) the field. I think we’ve started that in a great way. I think we’re getting there. I couldn’t have asked for more out of these last five months.
I’ve been saying this for 20 years, but fans have the “for me to win, someone has to lose” mentality beat into them, and fans become employees of teams, and us against them is taken to the boardroom with “we’ll go it alone” attitudes and bitterness over the past. For a small league, the only way certain things can be capitalized is collectively, without anyone sabotaging the process because it wasn’t their idea or in their control.
