Of nine proposed changes announced Thursday, three focus on player safety (eliminating “blindside” blocks, low blocks outside the tackle box, widen definition of spearing), two on game flow (eliminate coach challenge on illegal contact, automatically review potential touchdowns), and four on game play (eliminate sleeper play loophole, simplify determination of passer over line of scrimmage, eliminate the force out rule, increase the penalty for pyramiding).

The changes need to be approved by the board of governors before they are adopted.

Update: All approved for 2018.
