Protest is Needed

Craig Ellis was a great player, and is a great person. Regardless, no one should be subject to racist taunts, threats, vandalism or violence.

Protest is needed not only in the US, but this country as well. We are not immune from systemic racism in our institutions and discrimination and prejudice in our communities. We must oppose intolerance wherever and whenever we encounter it, whether that be in the workplace, in our schools, or our neighbourhoods. Silence is agreement. The racists, no matter the label they are hiding behind, must be shown they are outnumbered and made uncomfortable expressing their views.

CFL Strategy to Invest in Itself

Published on September 24, 2017 9:57 PM

Litz’s latest initiative, the CFL Football Frenzy mobile app, is masterful in all ways — professionally executed and targets the right audience. Much more valuable and a lower entry barrier than a realistic console simulation, which skews much older. Check it out, and tell those under 14 in your life.

What has been done recently isn’t like past efforts, which may have brought temporary bumps, but no lasting changes. The growth may be slower, but they are aimed at changing perceptions of new generations (combatting the views foisted on them by older generations) for long term changes.

CFL Changes Practice, Schedule For Player Safety

Published on September 13, 2017 11:23 PM

It would be interesting to know if coaches were using all 17 full-pad/contact practices available to them, and if they grouped them earlier in the season or spread them out over the year. They are gone now.

As for the schedule, this is a good temporary solution, but there are more radical options. More later.

Brouillette (MTL), after retiring in late May, has been putting his law degree to use at Montreal firm Morrone Avocets since late June after a seven season career. Another player with a plan for after football, and a successful transition to a career.

Update: And just like that, his retirement is over and he’s back.
