Randy Ambrosie Named 14th CFL Commissioner

Published on July 5, 2017 9:39 PM

Somewhat of a surprise, but not an unknown, Ambrosie is checking all the right boxes with those that cover the league. Review the challenges he faces, his roots (he was runner up for commish job last time!?) or read the profiles, opinions and coverage since his hire recommendation was revealed last week.

Little known fact: dbo drafted Randy Ambrosie in an early 1990’s John Madden Football custom roster league, and Ambrosie and company lead that team to a championship.

OSEG Working for Grey Cup Financial Changes

Published on July 4, 2017 10:57 PM

Following this report last week, the RedBlacks say that Grey Cup cost sharing changes are coming in 2018, but they are pushing for more. Good luck to them in fixing this difficult area in cost and revenue sharing.

Information in this article, though not clear, seems to indicate the RedBlacks were responsible last year for paying their players the Grey Cup bonus. My previous understanding was this was paid out of Grey Cup host revenues (same as playoff bonuses paid out of playoff game revenues), and fell back to the league if the host was unable to make payment due to a shortfall in revenue. Would like to receive confirmation of the actual current practice.

Steve Daniel: Stats That Got Us Here

Published on July 1, 2017 11:55 AM

Steve Daniel quickly talks about the history of adding to CFL statistical metric points, changes that continue today, and the future of evaluating quarterbacks.

A solid set of principles guiding the addition of new statistics, recognizing the subjectivity of some statistics. No matter the number of statistics available, and what they say about the past, teams will always have to play each game, the whole season to determine the champion.
