Ottawa 2017 Grey Cup Announcement Sunday

Published on July 26, 2016 3:45 PM

With all the complaints about the lack of awarding a Grey Cup to Ottawa the past two years with the RedBlacks taking the field, the most important fact is now conceded in the story. Hopefully Hamilton reads this and comes to understand it as well.

The right to play host to the Grey Cup was never expressly guaranteed, but rather was conditional on a formal bid acceptable to the CFL and its board of governors.

In line with the timeframe for most awarding announcements, the “finally” is hardly deserved.

Speaking of finally, it made an overused appearance with the Argos Monday night victory.

Eight Lighter After Week 4

Published on July 20, 2016 11:30 PM

Eight fines, the majority coming from two games, is not a week high this season. The continuing effort to change player behaviour continues. However, it is hard to change what has been coached into players for years.

Four Fined for Week 3 Infractions

Seems like things that have become certain penalties in the new protective order have now become penalties and fines in 2016. I’m all for penalizing players for these infractions (and fining for dangerous/disrespectful hits), but I’m not sure fines will do anything to deter behaviour when the result can’t be foreseen.

2016 CFL Publications Available

The CFL 2016 Rulebook and Guide and Record Book publications are available for download. The CFL Guide and Record Book is also available for purchase.

Nice to see the record book back in physical and now electronic form. I can only assume the name change is because the young people in the CFL HO want to distance themselves from anything old CFL, ‘cause that’s why kids don’t like the CFL, they haven’t changed the name of their record book in 30 years.

Additional Six Fined for Week 2 Action

Published on July 6, 2016 7:29 PM

A Week 2 total of 10 players disciplined is a record in recent memory. All new discipline announced was for illegal or dangerous hits or blocks.

One Suspension, Three Fines to Start Week 2

Published on July 4, 2016 10:46 PM

Montreal’s Duron Carter gets one game (in addition to what he missed for being ejected in the last game) while two Ottawa players receive fines along with Ottawa coach Rick Campbell.

That’s just one game. More to come for Week 2.

Update: Suspension upheld on appeal.

Three Fined for Week 1 Hits

The season always seems to start fine heavy, with three tapped for Week 1 and one for pre-season action.
