Don Getty: 1933-2016

Published on February 26, 2016 8:35 PM

Getty is half of the interesting, uniquely Canadian story of Getty and Peter Lougheed, Eskimo players and Alberta premiers. Getty had a longer football career (11 years versus 2) but shorter term at premier (7 years versus 14), but together they started 44 years of Tories ruling the province that ended in 2015. Getty built a political legacy to be remembered for, but was cemented in Eskimo and CFL history long ago.

My condolences to the Getty family.

Ottawa Submits Bid for 2017 Cup

Published on February 2, 2016 9:50 PM

Placing the showcase championship game in the nation’s capital on the country’s 150th anniversary makes perfect sense, but does bringing every sporting event possible to Ottawa in 2017? I suspect Ottawa will be saturated and some events will have less than the full interest and support they deserve from of the community.

Ottawa has expressed interest in hosting the 105th Grey Cup in 2017 for some time, most recently in Sept. which preceded disappointment in October that an announcement wasn’t made. Now maybe the media understands it won’t be awarded until bids are submitted.
