It was hinted when Shaw was announced as Grey Cup and player achievement awards presenting sponsor that there might be a shakeup here, but I’m a little surprised at the replacement. It seems like corporate spin out of the CFL in response to the criticism over a lack of offence. Now they can just appoint all offensive players as the top performers of the week.
We’ll see how it resonates with the younger generation they are courting to “watch” the game from the social plazas and tweet for their team’s player as top performer of the week. My worry is popularity may initially surge, but there is not much depth to these fans.
