— CFL Database (@cfldb) June 28, 2015I know this is true due to the thousands of queries received since these patches appeared during the 2014 playoffs. A whole generation or two with no idea and no way to discover what CP stands for. Pass it along and they can say TIL.
Update: From the 2013 Grey Cup coverage, you can see the Canadian Pacific patch on jerseys. It was 2014 playoffs when the switch was made to the CP logo in my recollection.
Update: No, it doesn’t stand for Captain or Canadian Player. Nice try though.
Update 2018: Alas, CP has not renewed their sponsorship agreement in 2018, and the CP patch has been replaced by another. The above is only relevant through 2017.
Update 2019: KalTire and BFGoodrich patches will be worn by West Division teams in 2019.
