CP Logo on CFL Jerseys

CP – Canadian Pacific — National Sponsor

I know this is true due to the thousands of queries received since these patches appeared during the 2014 playoffs. A whole generation or two with no idea and no way to discover what CP stands for. Pass it along and they can say TIL.

Update: From the 2013 Grey Cup coverage, you can see the Canadian Pacific patch on jerseys. It was 2014 playoffs when the switch was made to the CP logo in my recollection.

Update: No, it doesn’t stand for Captain or Canadian Player. Nice try though.

Update 2018: Alas, CP has not renewed their sponsorship agreement in 2018, and the CP patch has been replaced by another. The above is only relevant through 2017.

Update 2019: KalTire and BFGoodrich patches will be worn by West Division teams in 2019.

Perrett Winning Battle Against Alcohol

Published on June 26, 2015 7:46 PM

Very brave of Jeff Perrett to let his story be told. Only stories of experience can help others think twice before developing an issue or seek help when they realize they have a problem. Kudos to Herb Zurkowsky for bringing the story to the page with compassion and respect. My best wishes to the Perrett family.

Tommy Hudspeth: 1931-2015

A short time in the CFL, but a member of the Canadian football fraternity just the same. My condolences go out to the Hudspeth family.

TSN and CFL Launch Thursday Night Football

Published on June 20, 2015 10:38 AM

Even without special branding, scheduling circumstances warrant Thursday night games, so why not make it an early season event? Bell and TSN aside, what is important is whether the stands can be filled across the league on Thursday nights, which is the question for any game time.

Still generating the most revenue in the CFL, but spending the most as well. $25 million of $40 million needed for their stadium contribution is in place, with the amount in place due to the city mid-next year, plus $13 million in the stabilization fund. Making hay while the sun shines.

“Thumper” Harris was a division or league all-star in each of his first 11 seasons, a feat that seems impossible today. A great on the field, he also impacted Calgary after his retirement. My condolences go out to the Harris family.
