It started with a social push but is now getting mainstream media attention. It may get public support because of its higher profile and shows the potential in design options, whereas other options will be a name on the page. That is unfortunate, because the sales job is more about getting selected for the prestige/work than worrying about historical inaccuracies.
The name selected should sound like it has been around for 100 years and I don’t think Highlanders does that for an Ottawa football team. The military has a history with Scottish/Highlander regiments, but there is not connection in Canada or football for such a name. Also, though it requires no translation, I don’t see it resonating with francophones.
