FCCA Convention

Published on March 25, 2011 7:35 PM

The Football Canada Coaches Association, apparently formed late last year based on the NCFCA, has a convention coming April 2nd and 3rd in Burlington, ON. The list of session presenters appears well qualified on a wide range of topics. This is a easy opportunity for new coaches to get a base understanding of many football concepts and experienced coaches to hear about different aspects of the game in one weekend.

Hopefully this association grows and becomes a resource for amateur coaches across the country to improve their coaching skills and football understanding and helps elevate football in Canada.

Legal Challenge May Delay Ottawa Franchise

Another plot turn in the Ottawa stadium soap opera.

Halifax Proceeding With Stadium Study

The stadium discussion is being framed around community needs and use, regardless of a CFL franchise bid. The stadium study has “… to be clear on size, seating and potential operational uses. It has to be multi-use.” says Mayor Peter Kelly, though 25,000 seats is suggested.

While Halifax is not pushing the stadium on the issue of acquiring a professional football franchise, the size clearly allows for that. I think some in Halifax want to build a stadium, then appear at the top of the list when CFL expansion into Atlantic Canada occurs. They know the only way to do that is to build a more suitable stadium than Moncton has.

The Commish Has a Birthday

No, not that one. Mark Cohon turned 45 today. Depressing to know that now it is impossible for me to be as accomplished by his age.

Happy Birthday Mr. Cohon!

Rallying Ottawa Around the Rough Riders

Missed this article from about a month ago, very similar to my own argument from last year. The fact that Rough Rider opponents have no belief in compromise and co-existence reflects the sad state of our society. Everything isn’t about “winning”. Driving home from work isn’t a race and the need to always be one up on someone reflects deeper self-esteem issues. I’m susceptible to this myself.

If the Rough Riders isn’t possible, others are proposing alternative names. Seriously, though, what about the ‘76’ers or ‘98’ers?
