Television (TSN panel anyone) and print media along with Hamilton coach Charlie Taaffe seem to be trying to make the case for reviewing the fumble in field-of-play rule because it doesn’t reward the effort of the defensive team. This rule has been in place for likely 30-40 years, I see no need to mess with it now. A rule that favours the offence is not necessarily bad and I see no other consistent way to rule it. We certainly don’t need a touchback rule nor possession changing whenever a ball is punched out directly out of bounds.
