This change has come into play a couple times in the first 3 games and seems to have caught the broadcasters off guard. While I applaud the rule favouring the offence, shouldn’t the change been explicitly publicized, especially to broadcasters, prior to the season?

A Financial Post editorial misses the point regarding the visibility of the CFL once the corporate pie is swallowed by a $30 billion gorilla. We may or may not support Larry Campbell’s legislation, but I believe Canadians do not want mega corporations to have carte blanche in Canada nor that their presence in Canada leads to better lives for us. If they can play fair, they can play in our sandbox.

A different site for the stadium, with a possible hotel and water park, is part of the current negotiation. The deal may still include the Polo Park land for Asper to develop.

The CFL needed to get way out in front of this, instead of entering the season without a weekly and monthly player award sponsor. Unless there is a quick announcement to sponsor those awards, I cannot see anyone wanting to come on board in the middle of the season. The end of the year awards will not be as much of a problem.

Update (still valid, 2021): The RSS feed URL CFLdb has been using since 2008, I think.
When the CFL.ca site came back up, the site RSS feed had a new address, or should I say the new address was finally published on their RSS page. Was there a redirect on the old one? No. Only those who go looking for the new feed address would find it. Anyone else (21 subscribers on Bloglines alone) would never know.

The CFL site has been spotty all week, it is unaccessible tonight since around 7PM EDT. The feed URL has been returning a 404 error for a week. Hopefully they are making some major changes to eliminate these issues once and for all. But I have the feeling that even though they are a major organization, no one really cares about these outages.

I hope the CFL focuses on other issues before adopting technology like this. I believe there are plenty of priorities for spending money, like officiating, a health benefits fund for retired players, grassroots programs, the CFL website and marketing to name a few.

These media attention stories bring out lots of comments, very polarized comments on the issue. No one really explores the reason a multi-billion monopoly would have an unfair competitive advantage. Those waiting for the NFL in Toronto don’t want to bring it up, those for supporting the CFL keep the argument on the game comparisons, NFL role model issues, affordability and patriotic issues.

Portraying a lack of agreement between the CFL and NFL as a fight between the leagues seems extreme. The support for the CFL in the NFL front office and owners has many factions. It may have shifted from the Tagliabu commissioner days, but there are still groups who want to stay within their own borders for their own reasons.

The CFL and NFL have ceased talks on a new working agreement. No new talks are scheduled after months of talks between the two commissioners, but “… the door remains open”. The fact the NFL has put nothing on the table reflects their current leadership’s actual position toward the CFL. The CFL must be prepared to enforce the rules prior to original 1997 agreement with the NFL, or else the NFL will be getting player contract benefits without anything reciprocal provided to the CFL.

I think it is more than a launching pad for NFL hopefuls and a retirement home for NFL players, but I thank him for his support just the same. Nice work on the Bermanisms too.
