On Friday, TSN’s Dave Naylor broke details of a report to HRM council regarding a stadium proposal and staff direction, to be voted on at a October 30th council meeting. The report contains information on a stadium location, costs and funding models, and looks for approval to move to the next stage in negotiations and produce a final report in about three months.
Pundits question whether the Hamilton and Ottawa models will work for Halifax’s CFL plans, while westerners believe the Saskatchewan fan-base model should be what Halifax mimics.
The Shannon Park stadium site preference was the big news from the report; a preferred site announcement provides a peak into what could be and provides firmer facts for the debate. Funding and cost projections were the other pieces of information valuable to those interested in the viability of the proposal. It is clear that the next stage is required to confirm the exact details, though it is also clear that public funds are being asked for.
