The January 2018 release notes for the CFLdb family of sites includes data additions, bug squashing, new enhancements and a special missed milestone.

The following changes have been made to CFLdb Statistics since the last report:

• Data: Added game results for ORFU 1922-1927, 1935-1937, 1941 and 1944-1951. Corrected team dates during these periods, and added team coaches where known.
• Data: Corrected a coaching start date for Bud Grant (thanks Cathy).
• Data: Updated about a dozen player season jersey numbers.
• Data: Other data fixes found in audits, review and investigations (a total of 510 updates, additions and deletes were made).
• Bug: Fix bug in game lead changes, improve performance.
• Bug: Fix franchise owner name display
• Bug: Disabled opposition selection unless team selected on Streaks page, as selecting opposition only is not valid and returns unusual results.
• Bug: Fixed issue with player pages having no career seasons or games played.
• Bug: Refactored Attendance and Record compilation tools.
• Bug: Additional wording changes and visual improvements.
• Enhancement: Show variable number of Important Dates items from 2 weeks ago forward.
• Enhancement: Show player links on player participation pages from 2003 season forward (previously 2009).
• Enhancement: Show player age on player participation pages from 2004 season forward (previously 2011).
• Enhancement: Improve options when no CFL broadcasts to display.
• Enhancement: Allow Grey Cup to be searchable by year (1986 Grey Cup) or ordinal (59th Grey Cup).

Along with numerous other data, performance, administrative, or infrastructure related bug fixes and enhancements (24 commits this month).

Milestone

CFLdb celebrated 10 years in November, the domain being registered 2007-11-25, the site coming online before the end of that month, posts starting in April 2008 and CFLdb Statistics added in June 2011. If you had shown me then where it would be in 10 years, I would have probably been disappointed and imagined I could have done better as a steward of the site. However, it is the great community of researchers and contributors that powers the site allowing it to reach people in the millions and provide information from the trivial to the serious (family research, games played to complete medical history, starting point for proving pension, and more). Here’s to them and here’s to another 10 years and more in the hands of the Canadian football community.

I have lots of ideas for the future. I hope I can find the time to bring them to fruition and engage the contributors and visitors to the CFLdb sites.
