A number of changes have taken place to the family of CFLdb sites in the past year, a few mentioned, most not. This is a summary of the changes occurred since January 2015.

CFLdb

  • 110+ commits since Jan. 1, 2015.
  • Migrated site to secure SSL (TLS) protocol.
  • New responsive site design was launched on April 12th.
  • Updated schedules and rulebook were added.
  • Improved search.
  • Update backend software to latest versions.

CFLdb Statistics

  • 400+ commits since Jan. 1, 2015.
  • Migrated site to secure SSL (TLS) protocol.
  • Added Team and League all-time player lists.
  • New responsive site design was launched on May 2nd. Tweaks were made throughout the year to improve the experience for smaller screen sizes. This still needs attention to make this information dense site friendly for visitors on all devices.
  • Added Lead/Trail section to team season pages.
  • Manitoba games added to database in June, which included new leagues, cities, stadiums and games.
  • Added Sources, Contributors, Notices to game pages.
  • Added Canada Day, Labour Day and Thanksgiving Day game list pages.
  • 2014 and 2015 rosters and game participation numbers added. These were compiled independently from 46-man rosters, not 44-man active game rosters and as such included players not dressed for games but on the 2-man reserve list. Attempts will be made to update from league sources once available.
  • Most Outstanding and other annual awards added to database.
  • Historical draft data added to the site, including team summaries and simple success formulas along with Sources, Contributors, and Notices.
  • Adjusted some links for new CFL.ca site.
  • Enhanced and corrected playoff indicators on team season and game pages, including Total Point and Best of series indicators.
  • Improved search and added date search.
  • Various bugs squashed and improvements (including performance) made in the process of reviewing and testing site.
  • Updated backend software to latest versions.

CFLdb Razzle Dazzle

  • 26 commits since Jan. 1, 2015.
  • Migrated site to secure SSL (TLS) protocol.
  • New responsive site design was launched on April 19th.
  • Fixed issue with urls lacking trailing slash not redirecting.
  • Updated backend software to latest versions.

Looking Ahead

The focus in 2016 will be statistics data. I have additional (non-CFL and CFL-related league info) game data ready to add and have targeted that as my next project. Also high on my list is player biographical data and all-star team information. For non-data projects, the largest and highest on my list is to provide team and league streak records.

Farther down on my list to get to someday is a revamp of the FAQ and Rulebook on the CFLdb proper site. If inspiration ever strikes me, I may start or complete those projects in 2016.

If there are data or display improvements that can help the users of the CFLdb or CFLdb Statistics sites, please contact me with your request. I will shift towards working on enhancements that are considered valuable, especially if the data is provided or already present. I receive zero requests for enhancements to the site, and until I do, I work on items by my own priority.
