Birthday wishes for the CFL today as it turns 53 years old. Canada’s professional football league was born out of the Canada Football Council on January 19th, 1958 at the Royal Alexandra Hotel in Winnipeg. The CFC had existed since 1956 and other Rugby Unions before that to compete for the Grey Cup, but in 1958 the Canadian Football League name was adopted as they withdrew from the Canadian Rugby Union to become the professional league competing under Canadian football rules.
CFLdb would like to take this opportunity to wish the CFL many, many more.
