I’m shocked the board decided to approve the new convert rule that has major flaws with the purpose of the play. Intended to address the “boring” comments and add excitement to the game, I don’t see anyone getting excited about 1-point kicks from a 25-yard scrimmage and only time will tell if coaches will be swayed against an almost automatic 1 versus 2-point try except late in games. I say it will still be the time everyone gets up to go get a beer.

I expected at least a pre-season trial before adoption, but this board don’t see themselves as stewards of the game, but rather entertainment moguls. Besides short Canadian Press coverage of the change, very little reaction to the news.

The rest of the changes should bring back the excitement for 97% of the game that isn’t converts, but only if coaches aren’t allowed to bend the rules to stifle offence.
