One of today’s announcements on the 100th Grey Cup celebrations, the other being Canada Post commemorative stamps (with more released in August).

And yesterday, it was announced the 100th Grey Cup game is officially sold out.

Mr. Jackson deserves to this recognition for his work after football, though he is more well know for his time with the Ottawa Rough Riders. Congratulations.

Hall of Fame Game in Winnipeg

Published on June 19, 2012 7:22 PM

I have been waiting for confirmation on the location and date of the Hall of Fame Game since the inductees were announced. I assumed it would occur in Toronto, either during the season or around the Grey Cup. Glad they got it decided, but wonder why Toronto couldn’t do it during the season, like on Winnipeg’s Oct. 19th visit.

It is a do over for Canad Inns Stadium in 2012. Not too many stadiums get two swan song seasons.

Frenemies Done With Appeal, Not Done Hating

Published on June 14, 2012 7:19 PM

After announcing they would announce their appeal decision today, the Friends of Lansdowne confirmed they would not pursue their case to the Supreme Court of Canada. Expect continued protests and outrage right through opening kickoff and beyond from this group amongst the support.

Meanwhile, the city has outlined its argument against hearing the Lansdowne Conservancy’s appeal.

McMaster Not an Option for Ti-Cats in 2013

Published on June 8, 2012 10:25 AM

Surprising, and no real reason given. I will be curious to understand the decision if the rationale for it ever comes out. It looks like McMaster’s loss will be the University of Western Ontario’s gain (and perhaps Waterloo and Moncton too).

Update: The rationale is explained in an update. The expected fears and impacts ended up being the factors for McMaster.

'Riders Announce 2011 Profitable

Published on June 8, 2012 10:14 AM

Merchandise sales dropping to 22% of revenue still makes them the envy of many a sports franchise. Concession revenue also exceeding CFL revenue also reflects not only the full stands, but the deal they have in place that many other clubs would like to have.

Rosedale Gets Plaque for 1st Grey Cup

Published on June 2, 2012 10:50 AM

Wednesday the CFL held a ceremony to kick off the 100th Grey Cup season by unveiling a plaque at Rosedale Field in Toronto, the site of the first Grey Cup. I would think a day or two lead notice about such an event would allow a lot more people to attend the ceremony.

Update: Also see the plans for recreating the 1950 Mud Bowl. Why the 1962 Fog Bowl can be called a debacle I don’t know. Humanity has never been able to influence the weather. Both teams play in the conditions given and football is a game rarely postponed by weather. Weather is an integral part of the sport.
