McCain Speaks About Atlantic Franchise

Scott McCain, a business leader with some passionate views on banding the Atlantic provinces together in the pursuit of a CFL franchise, provides some valuable insight on the Maritime corporate environment. McCain’s views on this effort needing to be regional needed to be said, and his other comments indicate he has the passion, contacts and understanding of the community to lead the league’s advisory council in Atlantic Canada.

Commissioner Discusses Moncton Future

Is it an enviable position for the commissioner to have to temper the excitement Touchdown Atlantic brings to the Maritimes about a permanent professional franchise? I think there are many across the country that think there isn’t a Atlantic CFL franchise for a single reason — because the league has refused to grant one.

1991 Grey Cup Champs Argo Reunion

If you haven’t looked at the stories coming out this week on the 1991 Grey Cup Champion 20 year reunion, then go now, it is worth a look. Especially of interest are the video roundtable (good to see Don Moen again) and a look at the advertising from the 1991 season.

CFL Announces Pink Week

Though I haven’t checked the reaction to this, I predict there are some using the opportunity to be negative to the league’s announcement because of last year’s league decision. I think this shows what is possible when players don’t provide just a week notice of interest in a cause. CFL Pink Oct. 21-22 will provide ample more opportunity to raise funds league wide than individuals trying to raise awareness alone.

BC Place Renovations Provide Positive Outlook

Lots of if’s, primarily whether a retractable roof and other improvements will bring fans to the park, will determine how positive the return to BC Place will be. This leads to speculation on when Lions owner David Braley will sell the team to local interests and what the asking price could be.

A Times & Transcript editorial encourages Moncton to go after a season’s worth of games as early as next year. Very respectful of the league indicating a seriousness to be a part of the CFL someday.

After this week’s speculative stories on possible home game locations, London also examines the possibility of serving as a temporary Hamilton home in 2013.
